To St.Simeon the
stylites, the pioneer of the stylites A monk who continued to
preach from the top of a pillar till he died in 459 after 42 years of
ascetic hermits’ life. Monasteries, hostels and bazars were built
around the cathedral which was visited by many of the world’s
powerful and humble
alike, sometimes thousands at a time, all seeking a cure for their
