Name
“Apamea“ was named
after the Persian wife of Seleucus I Nicator.
Location
Approx. 50 km to the
west of Hama –150 km from the Hotel.
History
One of four cities
founded by Seleucus I Nicator in the beginning
of the 3rd century B.C., It became one of the
main centers of the Seleucid state in Syria. It enjoyed the
particular advantage of a major center defending the Seleucids against
the Ptolmies of Egypt. A rich pasture to provide a breeding center for
the army’s cavalry horses. Apamea remained a center of considerable
importance into the Byzantine period.
During Middle Ages
Apamea was invested as a defensive line against the Crusaders. |
