History

The excavation in Ras-Shamra uncovered arrow heads and tools from the late Neolithic era; 7th millennium BC. The city rose to prominence in the 3rd millennium BC. The richest level of the site was the 14th century BC.  The most important city on the Mediterranean coast.  The Phoenicians traded with Cyprus, Egypt and Mesopotamia  The major contribution of Ugarit is the first alphabet in the history of mankind. The tablets discovered in Ugarit dealt with economic, political, administrative  and religious issues. Palaces, temples, tombs and residential quarters help to reconstruct the ancient kingdom.
