Name
Homs is probably a
distortion of Emesa during the Roman period.
Location
Homs is located approx.
160 km to the north of Damascus - 60 km to the east of the Hotel.
History
Since ancient times its
midway location has made it principal crossroads. Today Homs contains
an important oil refinery, mills, major factories, and a variety of
modern and traditional market places. Important sites to
visit Ibn Al Walid
Mosque, the Virgin’s Belt Church, and St.Elian Church with its
beautiful fresco painting. |
